ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
This Summer The Majestic Academy of Dramatic Arts will be offering 10 paid teen intern positions for it’s 2025 cooperative touring musical “A COW NAMED COW”. In addition to performing in the show, each teen will be assigned a staff position to cooperatively help put this production together and will be mentored by seasoned professionals to learn more about the position they are assigned. This program is a perfect opportunity to take your love for theatre to a new level and gain valuable experience that will lead to more opportunities in the theatre. Although this program will accept applications/audition videos on an invite basis, others may submit and will be considered based on their submitted materials. Deadline for applications is May 20, 2025
PAID INTERN POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
- DIRECTOR (2), MUSIC DIRECTOR (2), STAGE MANAGER (2), CHOREOGRAPHER (2), COSTUMES/PROPS (2)
- Ages 13-18
- You may apply and be considered for any of the above positions, but will only be accepted for one.
- Due to an educational grant we are able to offer a stipend of $75.00 to each teen intern.
PROGRAM OF STUDY:
DIRECTORS: Directors will learn how to interpret a script and create a unique visual and dramatic vision; how to effectively use the stage space, including blocking, movement, and stagecraft. They will gain a knowledge of various acting techniques to guide actors in their performance. Mentors will help all staff discover tools and methods to organize rehearsals and schedules, as well as learn the best practices when working with collaborators. Mentors include: Greg Parker, Becky Rush, Collette Foley, Jocelyn Duford.
MUSICAL DIRECTORS: Musical Directors will learn how to interpret a script’s musical style and how it contrbutes to the show as a whole. They will learn skills to successfully teach the music and harmonies within a musical, and be given a general knowledge of various vocal techniques to guide actors in their performances. Mentors will help all staff discover tools and methods to organize rehearsals and schedules, as well as learn the best practices when working with collaborators. Mentors include: Keith Belanger, Jessica Love, Robert Dionne.
STAGE MANAGERS: Stage Managers will learn how to coordinate all aspects of a theatrical production, from rehearsals to performances. They will gain valuable communication skills to ensure the show runs smoothly and on schedule, and facilitate communication between all departments. Mentors will help all staff discover tools and methods to organize rehearsals and schedules, as well as learn the best practices when working with collaborators. Mentors include: Roy Swonger, Aimee Baker.
CHOREOGRAPHERS: Choreographers will learn how to interpret a script’s style and learn when dancing/movement is appropriate. They will gain the ability to conceive original dance routines, design and execute them effectively, and translate ideas into physical movement while adapting to the ability of their cast, using various dance techniques to guide actors in their performances. Mentors will help all staff discover tools and methods to organize rehearsals and schedules, as well as learn the best practices when working with collaborators. Mentors include: Becca Antonakos-Belanger, Collette Foley
COSTUMES/PROPS: Costumers and Prop Masters will learn how to interpret a script and create a unique and complete property and costume plot that is compatible with their fellow collaborators. They will review a shows needs and ideas for execution while learning when to build costumes and props versus purchasing (within a budget). Mentors will help all staff discover tools and methods to organize rehearsals and schedules, as well as learn the best practices when working with collaborators. Mentors include: Jim Webber, Karen (Kaz) McGraw, Roy Swonger.
SCHEDULE:
- Mentor Days (6-8pm) June 10, 12, 17, 19. On these days you will work with your mentors to learn the skills you will need to be successful in your intern position.
- Production Rehearsals (6-9pm) – June 24, 26 / July 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17
- Production Meetings (6-8pm) – June 16, July 7. These are team sharing and communication opportunties.
- Dress Rehearsals: July 22, 24, 28
- Performances: July 30, 31 / August 1, 6, 7, 8
